Built Like Dad: Strong Weekend Plans Ahead 💪

Family-friendly events, giveaways, and where to take Dad this weekend

Happy Father’s Day, folks!

💙 Father’s Day Reminder: Real Lessons Are Built Together

This weekend, we’re not just celebrating dads for their classic one-liners or what they throw on the grill—we’re celebrating the way they show up, day after day, and teach by doing.

The other day, I put the roof on our chicken coop. Both of my boys came out, grabbed a nail gun, and learned how to lay down architectural shingles. We talked, laughed, and worked.
It wasn’t just about the roof—it was about passing something on.

🛠️ As I said while we wrapped up:

"More is caught than taught, but doing both is best”

Whether you're raising chickens or raising kids, those small moments stack up. They’re the things your kids will remember. They’ll carry them long after the thing is built or the tools are put away.

👨‍👦‍👦 This Father’s Day, here’s to the dads building more than just fences and roofs—here’s to the ones building character, confidence, and connection.

📰New Stories of the Week in Green Bay

📌🏡 New Affordable Home Unveiled on Broadway

A newly built home at 929 N. Broadway is bringing hope to Green Bay’s housing market.

The project—led by NeighborWorks Green Bay, with support from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and Forward Community Investments—is part of a long-term initiative to close the gap in affordable housing.

👏 Built with Purpose: Students from the Green Bay Area Public School District’s Bridges Construction & Renovation Program helped build the home, gaining valuable hands-on career experience.

This home isn’t just shelter—it’s a symbol of collaboration, education, and community impact.

📌🌳 Western Avenue Neighborhood Gets a Community Boost

The City of Green Bay is investing in the Western Avenue corridor, a neighborhood working hard to overcome crime and disconnection.

Mayor Eric Genrich, alongside the Office of Violence Prevention, kicked off a weeklong revitalization effort, starting with tree planting, block parties, and boots-on-the-ground outreach.

🌿 What’s happening:

  • 9 new trees planted along Western Ave (with more to come this fall)

  • City departments and neighbors gathered for the Neighbors Together for Western block party

  • Police officers and city staff are canvassing door-to-door, connecting residents to local resources

📌 Robotic Heart Surgery Now Offered in Green Bay

Bellin Hospital has introduced robotic heart surgery, making it the only provider in Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. Dr. Michael Bailey, trained by pioneers in robotic cardiac surgery, leads the minimally invasive program. The technique uses small incisions, avoids cutting bones, and is controlled directly by the surgeon, improving precision and speeding up recovery. Patient Bruce Katers, who had surgery on a Thursday and was out by Sunday, called the experience “life-changing.” Previously, patients had to travel to Milwaukee or farther for this care. Bellin joins just two other Wisconsin hospitals offering this innovation and plans to expand the program by training additional surgeons.

🏎️ New Business: Midwest Super Speedway Now Open!

A new carb-loving destination is on the rise in the Howard Commons Activity Complex!

Three Ducks Bagel and Bread Co. will serve up fresh-baked bagels, breads, and neighborhood charm at 575 Howard Commons Place. Owner Tara Steinhorst is awaiting final permit approval and hopes to open by early July.
