📰💫 Positively Green Bay
📌 🏫 Green Bay Schools Show Mixed Results on State Report Cards
All Green Bay-area school districts “met expectations” in Wisconsin’s latest report cards, though changes in state scoring make year-over-year comparisons tricky.
De Pere earned top marks as the only five-star district (87.8), while West De Pere, Wrightstown, Howard-Suamico, Denmark, and Pulaski all scored four stars. Green Bay landed at three stars (61.4), the lowest in the area, and was the only district with any one-star schools, totaling five this year.
While student growth scores dipped across most districts, chronic absenteeism improved, especially in Green Bay, where absences dropped from 32.6% to 29.5%. Still, educators say the new accountability measures make it hard to gauge actual progress.
📌🏘️ Green Bay Considers Tightening Short-Term Rental Rules
The Green Bay City Council has voted to accept a report recommending major updates to the city’s short-term rental policies. This move could reshape how Airbnb and VRBO properties operate across the area.
Proposed changes include a 7-day minimum stay, a 180-day annual limit, and increased permit fees (from $500 to $1,000 for new applications and $250 to $500 for renewals). The number of short-term rentals has soared from just 120 in 2022 to more than 430 this year, raising concerns about housing availability and neighborhood stability.
City officials say the changes aim to free up more long-term housing and address affordability issues. But many property owners argue that the new rules could hurt small-business income and jobs tied to property maintenance.
A final vote on whether to adopt the new ordinance is expected at the next council meeting, with public comments invited beforehand.
📌⚽ Green Bay Eyes Professional Soccer Teams
Green Bay could soon be home to professional men’s and women’s soccer teams under the United Soccer League (USL) banner. City officials recently signed an agreement with the USL to explore development options. A move that could include building a 5,000-seat stadium and a surrounding mixed-use entertainment district.
Mayor Eric Genrich said the proposal represents a “tremendous opportunity” to bring new energy and investment to the city. Local soccer fans and community leaders are already buzzing about what the addition could mean for Green Bay’s growing sports scene.

🚧 Lineville Road Reopening Soon in Suamico
Good news for commuters! The newly upgraded Lineville Road connecting Howard and Suamico is set to reopen by the end of next week.
The project expanded the roadway to four lanes, added a 12-foot multi-use trail for pedestrians and cyclists, and upgraded several roundabouts to ease traffic flow. Local officials say drivers will notice the improvements immediately once it opens.

🛳 Cruise Tourism Making Waves in Green Bay
Big growth is on the horizon for Green Bay’s port! Cruise the Great Lakes forecasts the city will triple its cruise ship stops next year, with six visits planned from seven different cruise lines.
Mayor Eric Genrich called the rise in tourism “fantastic” for the local economy, and for good reason. The economic impact is projected at over $320,000, not counting return visitors. With new port facilities in development, even larger ships could soon be docking in Green Bay’s downtown waters.
A promising sign that our city’s waterfront is becoming a true Great Lakes destination. 🌊
