  • 🚀 NE Wisconsin just landed $1M in startup funding to grow local businesses

and more.

Hey there, friends,

April is finally here, and if the last few days are any sign, this month is going to be a busy one.

We're coming out of a big week. Between the Easter egg hunts, pancake runs, and hundreds of locals showing up downtown to make their voices heard, Green Bay had a lot going on. Now we roll into the first full week of April, and there's still plenty worth getting out for.

Whether you've got kids who need something fun to do, you're looking for a night out, or you just want to know what's worth paying attention to, here's what's happening in Green Bay this week. 👇

Over 10,000 Green Bay locals keep up with what’s happening through Green Bay Buzz.

Got an event, news update, or something cool happening in the community?

Drop it in our 📝 Event Submission Form and it might be featured in an upcoming edition. 🎉

Green Bay Buzz exists because of the community, and we love highlighting what makes this city great. 💛

🚀 Northeast Wisconsin just got a $1M innovation boost

UW-Green Bay and New North, Inc. teamed up to launch a new startup consortium called the Cheese Wedge Consortium, funded through Governor Evers' Ignite Wisconsin initiative.

What does that mean for the region:

  • 🏢 Projected to support 21 startups in year one

  • 💼 46 new jobs expected

  • 💵 $3.4M in regional revenue projected

  • 🤝 Connects founders with national accelerator gener8tor and local mentors

This is the kind of investment that grows quietly but makes a real difference over time. Good news for the region. 👀

🏈 Draft Season is Almost Here 👀

The 2026 NFL Draft is April 23-25 in Pittsburgh.

The Packers are without a first-round pick this year after the Micah Parsons trade, so Green Bay's first selection is the 52nd overall in Round 2. Expect them to target a cornerback or edge rusher early. Seven total picks in the draft.

🏥 $17.2M going toward caring for critically ill babies in Green Bay

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is investing $17.2 million to advance care for critically ill newborns at HSHS St. Vincent Children's Hospital right here in Green Bay.

That's a big deal for families in this region who need it most. Good to know this kind of investment is happening close to home.

🎓 800+ Green Bay Students Explored College Options in March

Quick community wins worth knowing about. More than 800 high school juniors across the Green Bay Area Public School District attended UW Exploration events last month, with representatives from all 13 University of Wisconsin campuses on hand.

Good to see the district investing in helping local kids think about what's next.👏

🥙 Gyro Guyz Opening in Green Bay

A Madison-based Mediterranean spot is coming to Green Bay this week. Gyro Guyz is aiming to open Saturday, April 4, at their new East Mason Street location. Owner Omar Zaidan grew up in the Fox Valley and has had Green Bay on his radar for a while.

🌉 De Pere's New Bridge Just Got a Lot More Affordable

Good news for De Pere taxpayers. The city's share of the $180 million South Bridge Connector project came in way under what was expected. Originally pegged at around $50 million for De Pere, the actual cost after state and federal grants lands at just under $16 million.

The bridge will connect I-41 south of De Pere across the Fox River to both the east and west sides, giving drivers a faster route than the current options.

Oh, and there's a side story worth knowing: De Pere voted back in 2023 to name the bridge after De Pere native Arthur J. Altmeyer, one of the original architects of Social Security. Turns out Brown County never officially adopted the name, so right now it technically has none. The city says they plan to sort it out. 👀
