Hey Green Bay 👋

We’re rolling right through August, and it feels like the weeks are flying. This is the time of year when schedules get fuller, but there’s still plenty of space to soak up good food, live music, and little moments around town.

Here’s a look at what’s new and worth checking out this week.

🧭 Let’s go…

📰New Stories of the Week in Green Bay.

📌Main Street Closure for Sewer Project

Heads up, drivers, a two-block stretch of Main Street (between N. Monroe Ave. and N. Jackson St.) will be closed from 7 AM Aug. 21 through noon Aug. 22 for major sewer renovations.

🚧 Detour: N. Monroe Ave → University Ave → N. Webster Ave.
🏠 Access to local homes and businesses will remain open.

This is part of Green Bay’s $29 million sewer system revamp, with more closures expected until the project wraps up in October 2026

📌 Public Input Sought on Mason St. & Ashland Ave. Safety Improvements

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is inviting residents to weigh in on planned safety upgrades at seven intersections along Mason Street (WIS 54) and Ashland Avenue (WIS 32) in Green Bay.

📅 Online Public Meeting
Monday, August 25 at 5:00 PM
👉 Project details & meeting access

This is a WisDOT project, but the City of Green Bay is encouraging public participation to help shape the improvements.

📌Spirit Halloween is Back

It’s that spooky time of year again. Spirit Halloween stores are opening across the country, including in Northeast Wisconsin.

🎃 About 900 stores will be open by the end of August, with the rest rolling out through September.
👻 New highlights this year include towering animatronics like the 9’5” Sinister Straw Man and 7’6” Jack the Reaper.
🛒 Shoppers can find costumes, home décor, and even haunted in-store experiences at over 1,500 locations nationwide.

📌Public Pools Close for the Season

Green Bay’s three public outdoor pools- Resch, Joannes, and Colburn- have officially closed for the season as of Sunday, Aug. 18.

City officials say the closures align with staffing changes as lifeguards return to school. While the pools are closed, residents can still enjoy splash pads across the city, which remain open through early fall.

🚀 Growth: Leicht Memorial Park’s $7M Makeover is Underway

Green Bay is officially moving forward with a multi-phase transformation of Leicht Memorial Park along the Fox River, a project set to reshape the downtown waterfront into a hub for community life, events, and recreation.

The Plan

  • Phase 1 (2025): Leveling and site prep now underway

  • Phase 2 (2026): Pavilion with event space, concession, and bar area (capacity 1,000–1,500 people)

  • Phase 3: Amphitheater, walking paths, and river access stairs — funded through a community campaign, already 60% toward its $4M goal

By the Numbers

  • 💰 Estimated cost: $7 million total (down from earlier $9.5M projections)

  • 🎉 Pavilion completion deadline: Sept. 6, 2026, in time for the Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame game at Lambeau

  • 📈 Expected impact: 150,000 visitors annually, generating about $9 million in economic activity for Green Bay each year

This project reflects the city’s bigger push to revitalize the riverfront and position downtown as a year-round destination for locals and visitors alike.

🥐 Kringle for a Cause is Back at Uncle Mike’s

Good news for kringle lovers (and local nonprofits)! Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe in De Pere has brought back its popular Kringle for a Cause fundraiser.

✨ How it works: Each week, Uncle Mike’s donates proceeds from specialty kringle sales to a different nonprofit making a difference in Greater Green Bay. That means every bite of flaky, award-winning pastry helps support the community.

📍 Stop by: Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe, 1840 Dickinson Rd, De Pere
🗓️ Running weekly through the season, with new nonprofits featured each week

So grab a kringle, satisfy your sweet tooth, and know you’re doing good while you indulge.
