📰New Stories of the Week in Green Bay

📌Big News: Joannes Aquatic Center Upgrade Hits $11.4M

Green Bay’s Joannes Aquatic Center redevelopment plan has grown to $11.4 million, up from $9.45M. The city will tackle the improvements in three phases, starting in Fall 2026.

Phase 1 ($2.2M):
Aqua Zip, hammock garden, shade, basketball hoops, and mechanical upgrades.

Phase 2 ($1.6M):
Water slide tower, drop slide, more mechanical fixes.

Phase 3 ($7.5M):
New restrooms, splash pad, lazy river, pedal track, yard games & more.

The expansion is meant to boost visitors and revenue—but the city is still short 19 lifeguards before pools open this weekend.

📌🏟️ Campus Upgrade at NDA

Notre Dame Academy is getting a major facelift thanks to a successful $9.3M capital campaign.

🔹 New stadium turf and track renovations
🔹 Tennis courts redone by September
🔹 Upgrades to classrooms, science labs, and security

Athletes, students, and the whole community will benefit. First home football game on the new turf? August 29 vs. De Pere.

📌 Coal Piles Are (Finally) Moving

After decades of debate, the Brown County Board has officially approved an agreement to relocate the massive coal piles on Green Bay’s riverfront.

📍 Instead of the Pulliam site, the coal will go to the Fox River Terminal, clearing the way for major redevelopment along the Fox.

💡 What’s Next:

  • 35 acres open for new use

  • $15M state grant secured

  • A future mix of light industrial + commercial/residential development

  • Big win for riverfront access, city aesthetics, and long-term growth

It’s a pivotal step in reshaping the heart of Green Bay. 👏

📌 🎓 Medical Milestone in De Pere

On June 6, 18 new doctors from the Medical College of Wisconsin–Green Bay walked across the stage at St. Norbert College, celebrating the completion of their accelerated, three-year program.

Each graduate earned their Doctor of Medicine degree and is now headed into residency—with many expected to return and practice right here in Northeast Wisconsin.

🩺 Why it matters:
This program is helping solve Wisconsin’s growing doctor shortage. About 80% of students are local, and with 25 alumni already practicing nearby, it’s creating a strong pipeline of physicians who understand and serve our community.

👏 Cheers to the Class of 2025!

🛠️ Current openings include:

  • Zoning & Planning Board of Appeals
