Heat, Hype & Hometown Highlights☀️🍻🚴

Giraffes, gigs, good eats & good vibes — all happening this weekend in Green Bay!

Hello hello,

Alright, let’s be honest—summer in Green Bay doesn’t mess around. One minute it’s storms and sweat, the next it’s patios, giraffes, and Jesse McCartney on stage (didn’t have that on my 2025 bingo card, but here we are).

This week’s Buzz is packed. We’ve got free concerts, block parties, beer + cheese pairings, comedy nights, and just enough chaos to make you forget how hot it is. Whether you’re looking for something fun with the fam or a night out that turns into two, we did the digging so you don’t have to.

Let’s get into it—this one’s a good one.

📰New Stories of the Week in Green Bay

📌☀️ Weather Watch: Heat Incoming!

Today: Strong storms are possible with high winds and hail. Keep an umbrella handy and stay weather-aware.
Weekend: First Alert Weather Days for extreme heat. Temps in the 90s, heat index near 100°. Stay cool, stay hydrated.
Monday–Wednesday: Storm chances return early week before a cooldown into the 70s.

⚠️ TL;DR: Hot. Humid. Possibly stormy. Pack your water bottle and your raincoat.

📌🏗️ Shipyard Progress: Housing Coming, Park Paused

Green Bay’s Shipyard Redevelopment is making waves in 2025. Merge Urban Development plans to break ground this year on a 225-unit apartment complex, with skywalk-connected buildings and mixed-use design.

However, phase two of the Shipyard park—which includes a splash pad, urban beach, climbing wall, and more—has been pushed to 2026 due to design and budget timelines. Final designs will be revealed to the public this fall.

📌🏈 NFL Draft Brought Big Wins for Green Bay

The 2025 NFL Draft brought 600,000 visitors to Green Bay and generated an estimated $94 million in economic impact statewide, with $20 million going directly to the local area.

Governor Tony Evers just awarded $1.8 million to the City of Green Bay to help cover security and safety costs from the event, ensuring local taxpayers won’t foot the bill.

👏 Shoutout to the Green Bay Police & Fire Departments, Packers, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and more for making it happen.

🚔 Local Heroes on Display: Green Bay First Responders Impress at City Hall Academy

In one of the most powerful moments of the City Hall Academy, Green Bay’s police and fire departments delivered a live crash response demonstration, showcasing exactly what it takes to keep our city safe.

Attendees watched firefighters extract a crash victim, EMS teams provide treatment, and police execute a K9 narcotics search — all in real time. The simulation offered a behind-the-scenes look at how quickly and precisely our emergency teams work under pressure.

💬 One participant summed it up best: “It builds your faith in them... they know exactly what they’re doing.”

👏 A huge shoutout to the first responders who show up daily — and gave the community a front-row seat to the life-saving work they do.

🏛️ De Pere’s Past Gets Room to Grow

After 12 years of planning, the De Pere Historical Society broke ground on a $5.3 million expansion of the White Pillars Museum. The project will grow the museum’s footprint from 1,000 to 6,000 square feet and finally bring all historical archives—currently scattered across six storage sites—under one roof.

Expect interactive exhibits, a mezzanine for events, and a dedicated archival center. The upgrade means more field trips, group tours, and educational programs for both kids and adults—right in the heart of De Pere.

📅 Construction is expected to take up to 18 months.
🧱 A portion of the original 1838 building façade will be preserved.
