📰Stories of the Week in Green Bay
📌Packers Foundation Awards $1.75M in Grants
The Green Bay Packers Foundation just awarded a total of $1.75 million to 11 nonprofits across Brown, Dane, and Milwaukee counties, fueling everything from children’s education to housing and food access.
🏆 Highlights from Brown County recipients:
Children’s Museum of Green Bay: Expanding into a 26,000 sq. ft. facility
Jackie Nitschke Center: Renovating a new 16-bed Women’s Residential Center
New Community Shelter: Building permanent supportive housing
Aspiro, Bellin College, CollegeReady, and Wello also received transformational support
💬 “We’re proud to support organizations making profound impacts,” said Packers President Mark Murphy.
📌🛠️ Habitat Homestead Nears Completion as Women Build Celebrates 15 Years
Green Bay’s largest Habitat for Humanity project to date is almost done. The 13-home Habitat Homestead development on the east side is expected to welcome families into their new homes by year’s end, many of them single mothers building better futures.
This milestone also marks 15 years of the Women Build program, which invites women of all skill levels to swing hammers and shape lives. Volunteers, including FOX 11’s Rachel Manek and Emily Deem, recently joined the crew on-site, proving that no experience is necessary—just heart and a willingness to show up.

📌🧀 Major Dairy Deal: DFA Buys Green Bay Area Cheese Plant for $6 Million
Dairy Farmers of America (DFA)—the farmer-owned dairy giant behind brands like Kemps and Borden Cheese- has expanded into the Green Bay area by purchasing a cheese production plant from Winona Foods.
📍 The facility, located at 1552 Lineville Road, spans 7.4 acres and includes full equipment. DFA acquired the site for $6 million on June 10 as part of its ongoing commitment to grow its Wisconsin presence.
This move strengthens the region's role in national dairy production and signals confidence in the area's workforce and infrastructure.
🐢 PS: Watch for Snapping Turtles!
Nesting season is here, and snapping turtles are on the move, especially near roads. One librarian in Kaukauna even helped a wandering mama turtle make it safely back to the water.
Experts say only about 1 in 100 eggs will make it to adulthood, so give them space and be alert while driving.

🔥Green Bay’s Historic Fire Station No. 1 Gets a Modern Makeover
The city’s 90-year-old firehouse at 501 S. Washington St. is being reborn!
Developer Daniel Wickman of MOWGS LLC has big plans for the long-vacant Station No. 1:
First floor: Café, restaurant, or boutique retail (ready by end of 2025)
Second floor: Office space (targeted for late 2026)
Historic charm preserved, with modern upgrades inside
This project, backed by TIF support from the city, is part of a broader push to energize downtown’s south end—connecting key landmarks like One Aster Park, the Chase Bank site, and the Auto Gallery.
The redevelopment is seen as a gateway into Green Bay’s downtown and a symbol of transformation.
🏢 Buzzing Downtown: SPACES Opens in the Broadway District
