📰New Stories of the Week in Green Bay.
📌UW-Green Bay Launches Software Engineering Degree
UW-Green Bay is introducing a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering to meet the rising demand for tech talent skilled in both traditional software development and modern AI applications. Designed with input from local industry leaders, the program emphasizes hands-on learning, teamwork, and real-world projects with partners like Titletown Tech.
Software development jobs are projected to grow 25% by 2032, making this a high-ROI career path. Students can expect training in design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance, plus a strong focus on generative AI and emerging tech.
Applications are now open: uwgb.edu/software-engineering
📌Webster Avenue Temporary Closure for Sewer Project
The City of Green Bay’s Department of Public Works has announced a temporary street closure of Webster Avenue between Main and Pine Streets, scheduled from 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, to 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025. Motorists will be rerouted via E. Walnut Street, N. Monroe Street, and Main Street. Despite the closure, access for residents and businesses in the area will be maintained. However, drivers should expect potential delays and are encouraged to consider alternate routes.
The work is part of the Downtown Interceptors Renewal Project, spearheaded by NEW Water (the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District’s brand), which aims to replace aging underground interceptor pipes, some in use since the 1930s, to ensure reliable sewer service and protect public health and the environment.
📌 The That ’70s Show Vista Cruiser Comes Home
A replica of the iconic 1969 Aztec Gold Vista Cruiser from That ’70s Show has found a permanent home at The Automobile Gallery & Event Center in downtown Green Bay. Unveiled at Lambeau Field during the show’s Summer Tour, the car arrived August 10 and will be part of a new exhibit featuring photos, memorabilia, and interviews with actor Kurtwood Smith. Fans can see it now, with the full display opening after Labor Day.
📌City Hall hosts key public meetings, urges resident input.
Green Bay invites residents to attend important meetings today at City Hall, including the Tax Incremental Districts Review Board (11:00 a.m.), Redevelopment Authority (1:30 p.m.), Personnel Committee (4:30 p.m.), and Finance Committee (immediately after). The City emphasizes that community presence is vital for transparency, accountability, and shaping decisions that impact daily life.
☄️ Keep your eyes on the skies! The Perseid meteor shower peaks Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, but with the moon 84% full, expect more of a “glimmer” than a full-on show , about 10–20 meteors an hour instead of 100.
Pro tip: for the best view, head somewhere dark and look up just before sunrise.

🏠 Green Bay Launches New Rental Housing Hub
Finding your next apartment in Green Bay just got easier. The city has partnered with CityWise Software LLC to launch apartments.greenbaywi.gov, a free, searchable rental housing database designed to outpace Zillow and Apartments.com in local listings.
The platform aims to feature over 90% of available rentals in the city, including units not typically listed on major sites. Landlords with fewer than 20 units and affordable housing providers can list for free, while larger property owners pay modest fees. Listings will be verified, searchable by price, amenities, and availability, and will include an “Affordable Listings” filter along with renter resources on leases, rights, and local assistance.
CityWise expects a surge in landlord participation within months, potentially quadrupling Green Bay’s visible rental inventory compared to national competitors. Mayor Eric Genrich calls the project “another step toward addressing our housing shortage” and making it easier for residents to find a home.
