The NWTC Artisan & Business Center is practically begging people to take their scholarship money. They just simplified the application again because the old process was scaring people off. If cost has ever kept you from trying a pottery wheel, a woodshop, or getting help launching a creative side business, this is your opening.

A ball game, a free hat, and money back to local classrooms. The Rockers take on the Royal Oak Leprechauns Saturday, and $7 of every $15 ticket goes straight to Green Bay Area Public Schools. There's also a clear backpack giveaway at the gates, first come, first served while supplies last, which is good timing with school shopping right around the corner.

This is the one to actually do something about this week. Good Neighbor Week pairs volunteers with homeowners who need help with small repairs and yard work, and this year they've received a record 53 applications, more than double what they usually see. De Pere joined the program for the first time, so the reach is bigger than ever. Skilled tradesman or total beginner, they'll find you a project.

Cousins Subs just opened on the west side with Donald Driver as co-owner, and they're running $6 subs for a limited time to celebrate. Better part: through Sunday, 20% of every sale goes back to the community, benefiting Starr Elementary and the Allouez Pantry.

West siders, this one's for you. The Common Council just approved the Badger Park Master Plan, and the neighborhood helped shape it: a new playground, updated basketball courts, an expanded soccer field, bike skills features, and better lighting and accessibility. Now that the plan is officially adopted, the city can start chasing grants and outside funding to actually build it.

The Rooted in Culinary Center of Excellence opened its doors last week near the Brown County Jail, and the idea behind it is a good one. The nonprofit gathers surplus food from farms, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and restaurants, then redistributes it or turns it into meals for people facing food insecurity. First center of its kind around here.

An easy Saturday morning that requires zero planning from you. Kids pick either a child-size canvas tote bag or a wooden tic tac toe board, then go to town with paints and markers. Do the project, then stay and explore the rest of the museum. Projects are while supplies last, so earlier is better.

Carolyn Caffery of Paintin' Pottery is running a two-hour hands-on workshop where you build your own themed clay project. All materials included, so you just bring an idea and a willingness to get messy. Good one for a kid and a parent to do together.

Kids 10 to 18 can roll up to Colburn Park this morning and compete against other city parks in Kübb, Chaos Ball, and Cage Ball. Free lunch is handled by the Green Bay Area Public School District Food Service. No cost, no commitment, just show up and register.

Backyard Brew is hosting its first small business market, and the vendor list was deliberately kept a secret, so it's a bit of a treasure hunt. There's also a raffle running where the businesses getting the most love online win free stuff. Worth a stop if you like finding a maker you've never heard of.

Session two was full, and they just added a limited number of spots because demand was so high. Every class is a different format- think aqua dance, aqua yoga, aqua HIIT- and it all happens in chest-deep water, so you don't need to know how to swim. Beginner or gym regular, it works either way.

Those flower beds in the Allouez boulevards don't plant themselves. Stop by Zambaldi on Wednesday and a dollar from every beer goes to the Allouez Beautification Committee to fund next year's flowers. Easy way to make a Wednesday count for something.

The 81st training camp kicks off Wednesday morning at Ray Nitschke Field, and the American Family Insurance DreamDrive tradition returns right along with it. Kids bring their bikes to Lambeau, and players ride them over to practice. It's free, it's been happening for generations, and it's still one of the best things this town does.

Camp week starts with running shoes, not cleats. The Kids 1K goes Friday evening for the 10 and under crowd, and the 5K Run/Walk takes over Saturday morning. Finishing anything at Lambeau is a decent brag at any age.

If you've got Catholic ancestors, there's a treasure trove of historical records sitting right here in the Archives of the Diocese of Green Bay. The Bay Area Genealogical Society is hosting a free presentation on how to find and use them, and even if your family roots are from outside the diocese, the recordkeeping tips will help your research anywhere.

The De Pere Health Department is building out a free program where local students help older adults figure out phones, laptops, and online services. They're asking for community feedback first, so if you've got a parent or grandparent who could use this, your two minutes on the survey actually shapes it. The Green Bay Conservation Corps is hiring its fall crew, and this is a legitimately cool gig for anyone who'd rather work outside than at a desk.
