📰New Stories of the Week in Green Bay
📌Eagles Nest Boat Launch Nearly Complete
Crews are pouring the final concrete and setting docks on Nicolet Drive, converting the long-vacant Eagles Nest supper-club shoreline into a four-lane public boat ramp with a separate kayak drop, 100-stall parking lot, shoreline picnic lawn, and fishing piers. The county expects the $3 million project to open in mid-June, giving Green Bay boaters a quicker Lake Michigan gateway just minutes from downtown.
📌Memorial Day 2025: Gas Prices Expected to Be Among the Lowest in Decades
As Memorial Day weekend approaches, drivers across the U.S. can look forward to some of the most affordable gas prices in recent memory. According to GasBuddy, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline is projected to be around $3.08, marking the second-lowest rate for this holiday weekend since 2003 when adjusted for inflation.
📌 Green Bay West Alumni Pay It Forward with Life-Changing Scholarships🎓
This week, Green Bay West High School saw
a heartwarming reminder of what community can do.
Thanks to the generosity of alumni Jim and Tracy Ryan, the Do Great Things Initiative awarded three full-ride scholarships and a $5,000 award to graduating seniors—helping ease the financial burden of college for four deserving students.
Two of the students will attend Marquette University, one is headed to UW–Green Bay, and all are now on a path made possible by local support.
The ripple effect didn’t stop there—fellow Green Bay West alum Gary Wiessinger contributed an incredible $500,000 to expand scholarships for students pursuing technical education.
As Jim Ryan put it:
"Everybody deserves a shot at going on to some level of education above and beyond high school. Everybody."
These contributions are more than generous—they’re a reminder that big things happen when locals invest in locals. 💜
📌 Mark Murphy: “Best. Draft. Ever.”🏈
Packers President Mark Murphy says Green Bay’s 2025 NFL Draft was the best one yet—and the numbers back him up:
• 600,000+ fans
• Record TV ratings (13.5M viewers Thursday night)
• 90% of the crowd? Packers faithful.
Smallest city in the league, biggest energy on the map.
Green Bay, you showed up.
📌Edison Middle Unveils Outdoor Learning Center
Edison Middle School just opened its brand-new Outdoor Learning Center, transforming education with fresh air and hands-on exploration.
The space includes:
• Outdoor seating + a greenhouse for growing native plants
• Tree plantings integrated into the curriculum
• A plant-identification kiosk for interactive science lessons
Thanks to support from the Wisconsin DNR, New Leaf, and the American Transmission Company, students now have a space that blends learning with nature—and boosts physical and mental well-being.

🎢 Hank’s Specialties Expands in Green Bay
Family-owned Hank’s has purchased 1260 Parkview Rd. to open its 20th Midwest branch. The large warehouse and state-of-the-art showroom will stock flooring adhesives, underlayment, and sundries for dealers, installers, and DIYers across eastern Wisconsin, adding to new Madison (2023) and Davenport (2024) locations in the company’s 49-year growth streak.

🚧$8.6M Project Could Reshape Broadway District
A major redevelopment is on deck for Green Bay’s Broadway District—an $8.6M proposal that would bring 93 affordable housing units, a new Fire Station One, commercial space, and a community green corridor to the former Badger Sheet Metal site.
The City Council votes Tuesday on funding the next step.
This could be a big win for the Shipyard District. What do you think needs to happen to get it approved?
👉 We’ll keep you posted.

🏗️ Green Bay Greenlights Two Big Community Projects
This week, the Green Bay Common Council approved funding for two major developments aimed at tackling housing needs and boosting neighborhood livability.
1. New Community Shelter Expansion
A $14M, 41-unit apartment building is set to rise at Mather & Alma Streets. The goal? Provide transitional housing for people completing shelter programs—complete with case manager support for budgeting, employment, and independence.
2. JBS Urban Farm & Community Park
JBS Foods donated 26 acres + $500K to develop an urban farm, mixed-income housing, gardens, and a destination park. Think community garden meets gathering space—with improved infrastructure to connect the whole area.
These projects signal serious momentum in Green Bay’s push for affordable housing and community-first growth.
