📰New Stories of the Week in Green Bay
📌Walk-In Mental Health Clinic for Kids Coming to Green Bay
Children’s Wisconsin is opening a new walk-in mental health clinic in Green Bay this fall, expanding access to urgent care for children and teens ages 5 to 18. The clinic will be located in partnership with Bellin Health on St. Joseph Street and will provide immediate support for mental health concerns, no appointment needed.
This will be the third clinic of its kind in the state, following successful openings in Milwaukee and Kenosha, and is made possible through generous support from Kohl’s. So far, over 3,400 kids have benefited from these walk-in services statewide.
This initiative marks a major step forward for mental health access in our community.
📌Green Bay’s Nature’s Way Invests $12M in Geothermal Future
Nature’s Way, the well-known vitamin and supplement company, just broke ground on a $12 million geothermal project at its
Green Bay facility, set to be completed by 2026.
What’s happening:
The project will cut CO₂ emissions by 850 tons annually
It’s the largest sustainability investment to date by parent company Schwabe North America
It uses underground wells to naturally heat and cool the building, reducing dependence on natural gas
📉 The result? A 20% reduction in carbon output without any impact on product quality or employee comfort.
“This just makes everything more efficient,” said Engineering Manager Emily Smith.
Big green moves from a local leader. 👏
📌 Pro Women’s Bowling Returns, Finals Hit the Resch Center This Weekend

🏗️95 Workforce Housing Units Coming to Green Bay's East Side
Green Bay’s east side is about to see major growth as groundwork begins on the Grand Boulevard Apartments, a new workforce housing project made possible by a land donation from JBS Foods. Located between the Kroc Center and Walmart, the project will bring 95 apartment units aimed at households earning 80–120% of the county’s median income.
Backed by a $2.5 million TIF loan, $500,000 in federal HOME funds, and $1 land transfer from the city, this $11 million development is part of a broader plan to create a vibrant new neighborhood. The site will also feature a destination park and urban farm.
Expect a mix of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units with construction likely breaking ground next month. City officials hope this serves as a catalyst for more housing, including townhomes and single-family homes, to follow.

🛠️ Heads-Up, De Pere: Riverwalk & Park Construction in Progress
Starting Wednesday, July 9, the De Pere Riverwalk & Wildlife Viewing Pier will undergo maintenance and painting. The Riverwalk stays open, but certain areas will have restricted access, plan your scenic strolls accordingly.
🌈 Meanwhile, at Rainbow Park, the playground is getting a full replacement. The old playground has already been removed, and the area will be closed for now.
Stay tuned for updates once both projects near completion!
🧪 UW-Green Educator Joins Great Lakes Research Voyage
Dr. Erin Giese, a faculty member and researcher at UW–Green Bay, is setting sail on a major scientific mission this summer joining the EPA’s R/V Lake Guardian to study water quality on Lake Michigan.
She’s one of just 15 educators selected nationwide to take part in this year’s Shipboard and Shoreline Science Workshop, where participants will:
Collect plankton, water, and sediment samples
Analyze pollution and invasive species data
Learn alongside EPA scientists and the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant team
Why it matters:
🔬 Giese brings the data back to Green Bay enhancing hands-on science education for students and helping shape local sustainability research.
A win for local science and Great Lakes protection!

🐹 Meet Di, Ri & Fi: Green Bay’s Hairless Hamsters Need Homes
Looking for a unique new pet? The Wisconsin Humane Society’s Green Bay Campus has a rare trio up for adoption: three baby hairless hamsters named Di, Ri, and Fi.
Their mom, Sylvia, was pregnant and gave birth to 11 babies, three of whom were born hairless due to a rare genetic trait.
🧬 Both parents had fur, but it turns out they were “carriers” for the hairless gene.
You can meet Di, Ri, and Fi at the Green Bay Campus during adoption hours. Sylvia and the rest of her litter are also available at PetSmart and the WHS Door County Campus.
