Hey Neighbors πŸ‘‹

Here's something that's never happened before this week. Kids' Day and the Kiddie Karnival, two traditions that have been running separately for generations, are becoming one big day at Bay Beach on Thursday.

The Karnival booths are still made by kids, out of cardboard and paint, the way they have been for over 100 years. Tickets are still a nickel. Some things around here don't change; they just get bigger.

Grab the kids and go be part of year one. Lots more below.

πŸ“Œ πŸ₯ Howard Just Doubled the Area's Rehab Capacity

Some genuinely good health news for the area. HSHS and Lifepoint Rehabilitation officially opened a new 40-bed rehabilitation facility in Howard. It doubles inpatient rehab capacity for the Green Bay area and includes Northeast Wisconsin's only dedicated secure inpatient neurological recovery unit. For families navigating a stroke or serious injury, care like this being 10 minutes away instead of a drive to Milwaukee is a big deal.

πŸ“Œ πŸ—³οΈ You Can Watch Them Test the Voting Machines.

Here's something most people don't know exists. Before every election, Wisconsin law requires clerks to publicly test all voting equipment, running pre-audited ballots through the machines to verify the count, then sealing them until Election Day. Anyone can come watch it happen. Monday, August 3 at 9 am in Council Chambers, and Tuesday, August 4 at 9 am at the West Side Garage, 519 S Oneida Street. Questions go to the City Clerk's office.

🍦 New in Town: Kindred Scoops

There's a brand new small-batch ice cream business in the area. Kindred Scoops just launched and is doing its very first pop-ups this week. And here's the part I love: the owners also set up their production kitchen as a community kitchen, so other local food entrepreneurs can use the space starting next month. Small business helping small business.

🧘 New on Broadway: Holistic Therapy Co.

The Broadway District just welcomed a new kind of neighbor. Holistic Therapy Co. held its ribbon-cutting this week at 340 N Broadway, offering a customized wellness approach that covers anxiety and depression therapy, massage, yoga, and meditation all under one roof.

Finding mental health support locally isn't always easy, so a new option opening downtown is worth knowing about, whether for you or someone you love.

🀝 Local business? Let's put you in front of the neighborhood.
The Buzz goes out every week to 10K Green Bay locals who actually read it and show up to the stuff we feature. We're teaming up with a handful of local businesses, no cost to start, just good exposure to the right people. If that's you, reply to this email or reach out at [email protected].

We keep it simple.

πŸ›οΈ Backyard Market & Brews

30+ local vendors, live music, Wisconsin beer on tap, and the kitchen going until dusk. New vendors and a different musician every single week, so even if you've been before, this lineup is brand new.

  • πŸ“ Backyard Brew, 3640 Sand Acres Dr, Ashwaubenon

🚲 Camp Is in Full Swing (Bring the Bikes)

All practices start at 10:30 am at Ray Nitschke Field, and the DreamDrive bike tradition happens every open day. Kids bring their bikes, and players ride them from Lambeau to the practice field. It only happens here.

  • πŸ—“οΈ Open practices: Thu 7/30, Fri 7/31, Sun 8/2, Mon 8/3, Tue 8/4

🏊 More Pool Time at the Kroc

The Kroc Center added extra Open Swim hours for the rest of summer: every Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 1 to 4 pm, now through August 22. And if you know someone looking for part-time work, they're hiring a Membership Services Rep at the front desk too, starting at $16.61/hr.

🎭 ASHPAC Turns 10 and Just Dropped Its New Season

Hard to believe, but the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center turns 10 this year. It opened in November 2016 with a free community concert, and now it's one of the area's go-to spots for live entertainment.

Tickets just went on sale for the anniversary "A Decade of Applause" season, and the lineup is fun: Legally Blonde The Musical kicks it off August 7 to 9, plus a Neil Diamond tribute, a Taylor Swift experience, an Eagles salute, and comedy from Kevin Farley (yes, Chris Farley's brother) later this fall.
