📰New Stories of the Week in Green Bay

📌📚 $34 Million Coming to Green Bay Schools

The Green Bay Area Public School District is set to receive $34 million in grants after the Trump administration released frozen federal education funds.

✅ The funds will support special education programs and help fill state budget gaps, providing a major boost for students and teachers across the district.

This financial relief will have a big impact on classroom resources and educational opportunities as the new school year approaches.

📌💼 De Pere Secures $100K Grant to Grow Downtown Businesses

The City of De Pere received a $100,000 Small Business Development Grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to expand its Experience De Pere Program.
✅ This initiative helps small businesses move into vacant storefronts, and so far, $120,000 has already been awarded to eight businesses like Orsetta Craft Kitchen and Voyageur Bakehouse.
👉 Grants of $5,000 to $15,000 are now available for unique concepts and underserved entrepreneurs as the program extends along Main Avenue.

📌 🚔 Green Bay Police Awarded $30K for Safety & Training

The Green Bay Police Department received $30,300 in grant funding from the Police Foundation to enhance training and purchase safety gear. Funds will support:

• Peer Support Team Training: $5,300

• Dive Team Swift Water Rescue: $7,500

• Crisis Negotiation Team Equipment: $7,500

• Wellness Program Enhancements: $10,000
  “These resources will help keep our officers and community safe,” said GBPD leadership.

🏠 Green Bay to Launch City-Sponsored Rental Website

Green Bay is moving forward with plans to create a city-branded rental platform, similar to Zillow or Apartments.com, to help renters find affordable housing.

✔ Built by City Wise, the platform promises up to 4x more listings than current private sites, including duplexes and single-family homes.
✔ Landlords with fewer than 20 units can list for free; large property owners pay a small fee.
✔ Final City Council approval is expected Aug. 5.

The site aims to improve transparency, prevent fraud, and give renters more options while providing the city with valuable housing data.
